Every time I think of these mesmerizing creatures, I feel amazed about how an engineer converted into an artist can create these sorts of living creatures that wander on the beaches of the Netherlands. Click on the video below to see what I am talking about.

Yes, this is the ingenious mind of Theo Jansen, a kinetic artist who made his creations of reclaimed materials and the wind as their source of power.


Known as Srandbeest, these sublime mechanisms that look like alien creatures perform a continuous choreography while walking on the sand.


For Jansen, their creations are in constant evolution. In fact, there is a genealogical tree at strandbeest.com that describes the evolution process and even the philosophy behind it.


Meanwhile, I keep my eyes open hoping one day to run into one of these fantastic creatures.
